‘Behind the Wall’ – A VOA Middle East Citizen Reporting Project

TEXT SIZE - +

What really goes on in countries that bar foreign media or provide only limited access? In an effort to find out, VOA Middle East has launched “Behind the Wall” Crowdsourcing – a street reporting project that allows citizens to share news, images and videos with the outside world. Set up initially for Bahrain, Syria and Yemen on the open-source Ushahidi platform, the project aims to give a voice to those who might otherwise be deprived of it.

VOA is keenly aware that the accuracy or authenticity of citizen reports cannot be independently verified, but it believes that they do provide a unique window into what’s happening in countries that limit the free flow of information.

Please check out our crowdsourcing maps and reports. If you live in one of these countries, we welcome your input.
