A Brazilian surfer had to be rescued this week after nearly drowning while attempting to surf a monster wave in Praia do Norte in Portugal.
Maya Gabeira, 26, wiped out on a wave observers estimate to be up to 30 meters high.
She was pulled from the water by a fellow big-wave surfer Carlos Burle, who came to her aid on a jet ski.
Gabeira had to be resuscitated on the beach.
Local Portugese media report she suffered a broken ankle but is recovering at an area hospital,
Burle himself tried to break the world record of riding the highest wave ever surfed. He is currently awaiting confirmation from the Guiness World Records to see if he's beaten the record.
The current title is held by Hawaiian surfer Garret McNamara, who, in November 2011. rode a 24 meter wave in the same location where Gabeira wiped out.
