Authorities in Brazil say a deadly two-day prison uprising in southern Brazil has ended.

Officials say two inmates were beheaded during the riot at Cascavel penitentiary. Two other inmates were thrown to their deaths from the prison roof, and police are investigating how a fifth inmate died during the riot.

Two guards who had been taken hostage by the prisoners were released. The rioting prisoners had demanded better living conditions and transfers to other prisons.

Officials say the uprising ended with the transfer of hundreds of inmates to other prison facilities.
