Kate (L), Duchess of Cambridge, and Britain's Prince William arrive at The Carlyle Hotel, Dec. 7, 2014, in New York.

Britain's Prince William and his wife Kate arrived for their first-ever visit to New York City Sunday, on a trip combining official business with old-fashioned tourism.

Kate, also known as the Duchess of Cambridge, will tour a New York City child development center Monday with the wife of Mayor Bill de Blasio.

William, the Duke of Cambridge, will be in Washington to meet with President Barack Obama at the White House. He also will speak at a World Bank conference on fighting the illegal trafficking of wildlife parts.

The royal couple will reunite Monday night in Brooklyn for a professional basketball game between the hometown Nets and visiting Cleveland Cavaliers.

They also will visit the September 11 memorial and attend a fundraiser for the University of St. Andrews in Scotland - the school where the couple met while students.
