Bryan, Lambert Shine at ACM Awards in Las Vegas

U.S. country music newcomer Luke Bryan and veteran Miranda Lambert took home the top awards at the 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards Sunday night in Las Vegas.

Bryan was the surprise winner of the ACM's entertainer of the year award, beating out Lambert, her husband Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean and two-timer winner Taylor Swift.

It was still a big night for Lambert who was named female vocalist of the year for the second straight time. She and Shelton also won the song of the year trophy for co-writing the hit single Over You. The song also earned Lambert the single record of the year.

Aldean was awarded the top male vocalist of year, and shared the vocal event of the year prize for the song The Only Way I Know, his collaboration with Bryan and Eric Church. Church won the album of the year award for his breakthrough collection Church.

Florida Georgia Line, comprised of singers Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard, was named best new artist of the year, and the husband-wife duo Thompson Square received the best vocal duo. The quartet Little Big Town earned the best vocal group prize and video of the year for Tornado.
