Chinese media say the mayor of a major city in the eastern part of the country has been fired in the latest crackdown on corruption.

The official Xinhua News Agency said Saturday that Ji Jianye - the major of Nanjing - was let go on suspicion of "serious disciplinary violations." No details were offered, but the phrase usually refers to some type of corruption.

The dismissal of Ji, who was also the deputy party chief of Nanjing, came two days after a Communist Party disciplinary body said he had been placed under investigation.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has vowed to crack down on corruption by officials across the country.
