Conflict Diminishes Chances for Mideast Peace Talks

In the wake of eight days of aerial conflict this month between Israel and Gaza, VOA asked diplomats, academics and policy advisors whether they believe there is a chance for renewed peace talks between Palestinians and Israelis.

The peace process has been dormant, stuck for months over issues including Israel’s building of settlements in Palestinian territories and a Palestinian push on the international stage for statehood.

Further divisions are expected this week as Israel and the United States will oppose the Palestinians as they seek to upgrade their status at the United Nations General Assembly to that of a non-member state.
