A famous Pakistani television talk show host has been shot in the latest wave of attacks on journalists in the country.

Authorities say Hamid Mir, a host for the private television channel Geo, was wounded in the attack in Karachi Saturday but is expected to survive. Police say he suffered at least three gunshot wounds to the stomach, leg and pelvic area.

The gunmen were in a car and on motorcycles when they opened fire on Mir's car near the Karachi airport.

Geo News described the attack as a "targeted-shooting incident."

This is not the first time Mir has faced attack. Geo says explosives were once found under his vehicle in Islamabad.

Mir has spoken out in the past against "injustices and atrocities" against Pakistani people and condemned an attack against media personnel in Karachi earlier this year.

Press freedom groups say Pakistan is one of the world's most dangerous countries for journalists.
