History Buffs Re-enact 1813 Battle of the Nations

Thousands of people took part in a re-enactment of the Battle of the Nations in Leipzig to mark the 200th anniversary of the confrontation.

Six thousand people from 24 countries came together on Sunday and re-enacted the fighting between infantrymen, cavalrymen and artillery for more than four hours.

The original 1813 battle is remembered as the greatest battle in world history up to the beginning of the 20th century, and featured more than 500,000 soldiers from all over Europe.

The allied troops from Russia, Prussia, Austria, Sweden and England defeated the French army, marking the beginning of the end of Napoleon's dominance over Europe.
