The International Criminal Court has delayed the trial of Kenyan presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta.

The ICC announced Thursday that Kenyatta's trial, previously set to begin April 11, has been postponed until July 9.

Defense attorneys had requested the delay to examine new evidence.

Kenyatta is charged with helping to organize deadly ethnic violence that followed Kenya's disputed 2007 presidential election.

He is currently leading in the vote count for the presidential poll conducted Monday.
