Seychelles President James Michel won a third term in office by an extremely narrow margin, with the opposition calling for a recount.
Michel, who is 71, won a runoff election in the Indian Ocean archipelago with just 50.15 percent of the vote over opposition leader Wavel Ramkalawan.
In his acceptance speech, Michel said it is "more necessary than ever" to create unity in the island nation, which survives on tourism and fishing.
But Ramkalawan and his party said they do not recognize the results of the election.
Ramkalawan said he had heard reports of cash being given to voters ahead of the polls, and said the election "turned out to be an auction."
He said he has written to the electoral commission asking for a recount.
The former British colony is made up of 115 islands and lies off the eastern coast of Africa.
