India: Pakistan Responsible for Soldiers' Deaths

India has accused Pakistan of conducting a deadly attack on Indian troops in the disputed territory of Kashmir.

Indian Defense Minister A.K. Antony said Thursday that it is clear that specialist troops from Pakistan were involved in Tuesday's attack on an Indian military post that left five Indian soldiers dead.

Pakistan has denied killing the soldiers.

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Thursday it was imperative for both India and his nation to restore a ceasefire on the border.

Mr. Sharif said he looked forward to meeting his Indian counterpart, Manmohan Singh, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, according to a statement issued after Sharif met Pakistani foreign ministry officials.

Pakistan has accused Indian forces of wounding a Pakistani civilian in cross-border fire.

The incidents come as the two nations are considering re-starting peace talks that stalled in January.

The chief minister of Indian Kashmir, Omar Abdullah said on Twitter that "these incidents don't help efforts to normalize or even improve relations" with Pakistan and called into question Islamabad's recent peace overtures.

Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan and they have fought two wars over its control.
