Officials say Iraqi troops have killed at least three protesters and wounded several others in the city of Fallujah.

Police say the protesters were marching to join an anti-government rally in eastern Fallujah when the soldiers blocked their way. The protesters began throwing objects at the security forces, who responded by opening fire.

Hospital sources confirmed there were at least three deaths.

Sunni protesters began taking to the streets in western Anbar province last month in protest of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and Iraq's majority Shi'ite rule, which they say marginalizes their sect.
