Israeli Police Arrest Palestinians at Holy Site

Israeli police say they have arrested 16 Palestinians who were throwing rocks near the al-Aqsa mosque on Jerusalem's holiest site. Officials say two police were wounded in the clashes with the demonstrators.

The incident began Sunday when the site was opened, letting in visitors and tourists observing the Easter and Passover holidays.

The area is one of the most sensitive religious sites in the region and is a key issue at the center of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Jews call it the Temple Mount as it is the location of two biblical Jewish temples, and is the holiest place in Judaism.

Muslims call it the Noble Sanctuary. It is Islam's third holiest site.
