Man Removed from US Plane After Anti-Jewish Rant

TEXT SIZE - +

An Ohio man has been removed from a plane in Miami, in the southeastern state of Florida, after he caused a disruption by shouting that he wanted to "kill all the Jews."

Miami police say 43-year-old Mansor Mohammad Asad of Toledo, Ohio was arrested late Wednesday and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and making threats against a police officer.

Police say Asad was a passenger on a Northwest Airlines flight that was about to head to Detroit from Miami International Airport. They say as the plane taxied on the runway, Asad became loud and disruptive, using anti-Semitic references and announcing he was Palestinian and that he wanted to kill all the Jews.

The pilot returned to the terminal and Asad was taken from the plane and searched for weapons. None were found, but police say Asad was verbally abusive and charged officers with clenched fists, prompting officers to use a stun gun on him.

Three other people were detained along with Asad but police released no information about them.

Police say that after an additional security sweep, the plane was allowed to depart for Detroit.

An FBI spokeswoman said the agency was notified about the incident but concluded it was a local matter and not terror-related.

The incident comes at a time of heightened security at U.S. airports following an alleged attempt by a Nigerian man to set off explosives aboard an international flight to Detroit December 25.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.
