Obama spoke Tuesday at DreamWorks Animation near Hollywood. The studio was co-founded by one of the president's biggest supporters, Jeffrey Katzenberg.
Obama said DreamWorks and other large studios create hundreds of thousands of middle class jobs in southern California.
He also said that movies and television shows created by these studios are some of the country's biggest exports and one reason the United States is a world power.
Obama said millions of people who have never set foot in the U.S. learn about how to overcome adversity and learn tolerance as well as diversity, and have an affinity for those who do not look like them.
