President Barack Obama will welcome the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation countries of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates at the White House and the Camp David presidential retreat on May 13 and 14, the White House announced Friday.

"The gathering will be an opportunity for the leaders to discuss ways to enhance their partnership and deepen security cooperation," the statement said.

The news comes after Obama touted the nuclear deal with Iran as necessary to reduce the chances of the combustible Middle East becoming even more unstable with the introduction of a nuclear-armed Iran.

The Sunni-majority Saudis have made veiled threats about creating their own nuclear program to counter Shi'ite-led Iran.
