A military statement says top militant commander was among those killed in fighting in Swat Valley

The Pakistani military says troops have killed 15 suspected militants during operations in the country's volatile northwest.

Officials say the fighting took place late Wednesday in the Swat Valley, the site of a major offensive earlier this year.

A military statement says a top militant commander was among those killed in the fighting.

On Thursday, a bomb blast at a police checkpoint wounded at least two policemen in the northwestern city of Peshawar.

Wednesday, a suicide bomber struck at naval headquarters in Pakistan's capital Islamabad, killing two guards and wounding 11 other people.

Local officials say the attacker, who appeared to be a teenager, walked up to a checkpoint at the entrance of the heavily-guarded complex and detonated his explosives when challenged by security forces.
