Filipinos are spending Friday at cemeteries across the country, paying homage to their ancestors.

"Since our brother Ping is no longer with us, this our way of remembering him and we do this every 1st of November. This is also why we brought food - all of them are his favorites - and we prepare it because it's one way of honoring his memory," said Rene Gagante.

Families brought flowers and offered prayers at tombs in Manila's North Cemetery, one of the largest in the Philippine capital.

The celebration of the Day of the Dead, known as Undas in the Philippines, has its origin in Mexico.
