Taliban Claims Responsibility for Pakistan Attacks

Pakistani police say a roadside bomb targeted a vehicle carrying members of an anti-Taliban militia in the country's northwest, killing seven militiamen.

Authorities say the blast struck Thursday in the Orakzai tribal region, which borders Afghanistan. Officials say a second explosion wounded 23 others who had gathered to try and rescue the victims of the first blast.

Earlier Thursday in the city of Bannu, also in the northwest, six suicide bombers attacked a police station. A police spokesman says three of the attackers died when they detonated their explosives, while police shot and killed the others. One police officer was wounded in the incident.

Meanwhile, a suicide attack in Tall district in northwestern Pakistan killed four security officials and one bystander.

The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attacks, saying they were meant to avenge the killings of other Taliban fighters by Pakistan's security forces.
