An Iranian news agency reports two jailed German nationals were allowed on Monday to see their families waiting in Tehran for a Christmas holidays visit, but German officials said the meeting had not yet taken place.
Iran's semi-official Mehr news agency reported that the meeting happened after clearance was granted. German officials refuted that and said the meeting is still being arranged.
German officials earlier on Monday summoned Iran's ambassador in Berlin to protest access denied to the relatives despite "several firm promises from the Iranian side."
The website of state broadcaster IRIB says the "possibility of a visit" was cleared by Iranian officials on Monday.
German weekly Bild am Sonntag has said two of its employees, who have not been named, travelled to Iran to investigate the case of a woman sentenced to death by stoning for adultery.
They were arrested in October in Tabriz in northwest Iran. Iran says the two entered the country on tourist visas and failed to obtain proper journalist accreditation.
