The United States is offering up to $1 million for the capture of a Romanian con artist who allegedly sold Americans luxury cars and boats that did not exist.

The FBI Tuesday placed Nicolae Popescu on its list of the 10 most wanted cyber criminals.

Popescu is accused of leading a ring that posted phony Internet ads for expensive cars, boats and motorcycles. Customers were told to wire their payments to fake bank accounts from which the money was transferred to the ringleaders in Romania.

Authorities say U.S. customers lost millions of dollars before the scheme was broken up.

The FBI also is offering a $750,000 reward for Popescu's alleged con-conspirator, Dumitru Daniel Bosogioiu.

Some information for this report comes from AFP.
