I just don't understand what so many people are afraid of. How do people of the same sex marrying threaten you? Truly loving someone is a beautiful thing if you're fortunate enough to find it. What does the persons sex have to do with it? I say, live and let live!

Gays already have such rights in the state of California, as discussed by some of the partners here. Being gay doesn't really affect me, except on almost every TV Show, Magazines, newspapers, movies, etc. For some reason gays seem to think they have some fundamental right to marriage. I'm not aware of what that fundamental right is. Being gay is a beautiful thing for that set of people, but claiming marriage to identify themselves for stated behavior using that avenue is not acceptable.

Homosexuals are human beings, like everyone else. As such they deserve they same individual rights and freedoms that everyone has, including the right to quality health care, housing, employment, and education. It goes without saying that being treated with courtesy and respect is a part of these rights.

Human behavior, though, is an entirely different matter. No matter the behavior, it begins with a behavioral urge, which many find difficult to control and didn't choose to have. To the law, though, this condition doesn't matter, nor should it. Rather, the law is concerned only with the behavior resulting from the urge. In particular, whether the behavior is 1) beneficial and should be encouraged, 2) unhealthy and should be limited, or 3) so harmful it should be banned.

Based on peer-reviewed research originating from respected, mainstream, and apolitical research organizations (A), homosexuality falls within the second behavioral category described above. It does so because people engaging in this behavior are far more likely than heterosexuals on a per person basis to experience bodily damage and disease, including HIV/AIDS to which homosexuals are 44 times more likely to contract than heterosexuals. Moreover, on average, they remain non-monogamous, even if they're married in jurisdictions that recognize such marriages and are from 1.5 to 2.7 times more likely to divorce than heterosexuals. They also experience a higher incidence of emotional and mental illness, even in countries like the Netherlands, which is highly accepting of homosexual activity and considers it on par with heterosexual behavior.

These issues are problematic, not only to the individuals, themselves, but to society and to children, if they're living in households headed by homosexuals. The reasons concern the origin and effects of homosexual behavior. The urge for this behavior originates from a complex mix of genetic, biologic, and cultural/social factors which vary in significance among individuals. Unlike with race and gender, these parameters do not guarantee a homosexual outcome. Instead, they impart a greater tendency than others might have for developing the urge for homosexual behavior. Consequently, a society that either encourages same-sex behavior and/or mischaracterizes it as normal and healthy through marriage or other means creates a powerful social influence. In response, those who are more vulnerable than others to developing a homosexual urge will be much likely to do so, engage in homosexual behavior, and expose themselves to the high risk of contracting the ailments mentioned previously in this post.
