French officials say they have arrested six suspected members of the Basque separatist group ETA.

The Interior Ministry said the six were arrested Tuesday in three separate towns - Blois, in central France; Brive-La-Gaillarde in the southwest and Montpellier near the Mediterranean coast.

ETA declared in October 2011 that it was ending its armed fight for an independent homeland in northern Spain and an adjacent part of France, but it has yet to disarm.

The group has killed 829 people in its fight for independence since the late 1960s. It is classified as a terrorist organization by the European Union and the United States.
