Three Suicide Bombers Kill 24 in Afghanistan

Three suicide bombers attacked a construction company in eastern Afghanistan late Sunday, killing 24 people and wounding more than 50 others.

The Afghan Interior Ministry said the attack took place in the Barmal district of Paktika province. It said the bombers gunned down a security guard, entered the complex and detonated a truck full of explosives.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying militants were targeting a military base.

The NATO-led force in Afghanistan joined Afghan President Hamid Karzai in condemning the attack, calling it a horrific murder.

In other news, NATO and Afghan patrols discovered two large narcotics caches during two separate clearing operations Monday in southern Afghanistan.

A cache discovered in Helmand province contained around 2.5 tons of resin glands of cannabis, 45 kilograms of hashish, 25 kilograms of heroin, and 23 kilograms of marijuana.

In neighboring Kandahar province, a joint NATO-Afghan patrol found 600 kilograms of hashish.

Some information for this report was provided by AP, AFP and Reuters.
