Twin Explosions Rock Northern Nigerian City

Two bombs have exploded in a crowded marketplace in northeastern Nigeria.

A reporter for VOA said the bomb blasts went off minutes apart in Maiduguri, at a cinema that was packed with fans watching an international football match.

Officials have not yet reported casualties from Saturday's explosions, but the Reuters news agency cites witnesses as saying at least 10 people were killed. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Maiduguri is the original base of Boko Haram, the militant group blamed for killing thousands in similar attacks.

Cinemas are commonly used to show international football games, particularly those featuring British Premier League teams that are popular among Nigerian football fans.

Witnesses say the explosives may have been placed prior to the match.

Some information for this report comes from AP and AFP.
