Typhoon Dujuan made landfall in southeastern China Tuesday causing strong winds and heavy rains just hours after sweeping through parts of Taiwan.
Three people were killed in Taiwan after the typhoon struck the island nation, according to the country's Central Emergency Operation Center. More than 300 others were injured, many hit by flying debris or involved in traffic accidents.
Across the island severe winds uprooted trees, damaged vehicles and cut power to nearly a million people.
Schools and businesses remain closed in Taiwan Tuesday while railways slowly resumed service.
The center of the storm passed Taiwan early Tuesday and moved on to China's eastern Fujian province.
The storm first hit the coastal city of Putian at around 8:50 a.m. with winds of up to 33 meters per second, according to China's official Xinhua news agency. No deaths or injuries have been reported.
Flights, ferry and train services were suspended throughout the province. Xinhua reports workers are trying to restore power to more than 600,000 homes.
