I hope President Obama carefully read this audit report by Special Inspector General for Afghan Reconstruction. If the US and NATO troops leave Afganistan in 2014, that will be the year the Karzi Government will be toppled by Taliban. All the years of figting, loss of lives and billions of US$ will be wasted by the pre announced withdrawal of US and NATO forces.

War is not a soccer game to determine who is winner or looser at the end of a prescribed time. War winds down or end when one party is victorious. But establishing a predetermined withdrawal date four years in advance is the worst stupidity to stop terrorists like Taliban. No war begins or ends at a preditermined date.

The news of the Boston Marathon bombings circled the globe, and resonated here in Dagestan, a majority Muslim republic in Russia, on the shores of the Caspian Sea. Last year, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the older of two brothers suspected of the bombings and a long-time Boston resident, returned to Dagestan, where he had lived for a year during his youth. Dagestan was the land of his maternal ancestors. But in the last two years, this republic of 3 million people has gained notoriety as the region with the highest level of political and religious violence in all of Russia. VOA's James Brooke reports from Makhachkala, Russia.
