U.S. President Barack Obama says science is not just for boys, encouraging girls to become interested in science and technology.

Obama hosted boys and girls from schools across the country displaying their talents at the annual White House Science Fair Tuesday.

He said fewer than three in 10 workers in science and engineering are women, saying there is so much talent to be tapped.

The president said he loves the Science Fair and that some of the inventions he saw on display were "just amazing."

They included a new vehicle to search in dangerously cold waters, an alarm that goes off when a car gets too hot for children and animals, and a group of 6 and 8-year-olds who came up with a sensor that retracts a bridge when floodwaters rise too high.
