President Barack Obama's chief spokesman says the president's Democratic Party could lose its majority in the House of Representatives in upcoming November elections.

In an interview with U.S. television network NBC Sunday, Robert Gibbs said there is "no doubt" that enough House races are competitive for Republicans to gain control.

All 435 seats in the House are up for election on November 2, along with 36 of the 100 seats in the Senate, where the Democrats also have a majority.

President Obama has seen his approval ratings decline this year as he faces a range of problems. They include high unemployment, rising U.S. casualties in the war in Afghanistan and a massive Gulf of Mexico oil spill that has hurt the economies of several Gulf Coast U.S. states.

Gibbs says President Obama shares the frustration of many people that the United States has not seen greater recovery efforts. He says Mr. Obama is pursuing policies that the administration believes will grow the economy and create stronger security for the country.
