VOA News
Officials in southern Yemen say the military has staged an artillery and aircraft strike in the restive south, killing at least 10 suspected al-Qaida militants.

The military says the assault took place near the town of Shaqra in Abyan province.

The militants had been holed up in the area after being driven out of cities and towns in the region following a military offensive last year.

U.S.-backed Yemeni government forces have been fighting al-Qaida militants in the country for years.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP and Reuters.
