A gas explosion at a coal mine in northern Mexico has left 14 miners trapped.
It is not clear whether there were any fatalities in the explosion, which happened early Tuesday at the mine in the town of Sabinas, in the state of Coahuila. Authorities say one person lost an arm in the blast.
Rescue workers are on the scene, but authorities say the presence of methane gas is hindering their efforts to reach the miners.
Mexican President Felipe Calderon says his government will provide whatever help is necessary to rescue the miners.
Local news reports say the facility belongs to the mining company BINSA.
