    Pentagon officials say the United States is preparing to offer aid to France as it carries out airstrikes against Islamist militants in northern Mali. The Pentagon has already given French forces intelligence information to help repel the militants’ advance, but it appears to be wary of any further action that might cause further chaos in the region.
