5 Killed in Blast on Syrian-Turkish Border


At least five people were killed and dozens of others injured Thursday when a powerful car bomb exploded near Syria's border with Turkey.

Officials say explosion was on the Syrian side of the Bab al-Salama crossing. The injured were taken across the border to a hospital in Turkey's Kilis province.

The Syrian side of the crossing is controlled by Islamic rebels battling the the al-Qaida breakaway group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

The ISIL has previously targeted the rebels in an attempt to take control of the border crossing.

Meanwhile, fighting continued throughout Syria Thursday, with regime warplanes carrying out airstrikes on rebel positions outside the southern city of Quinetra.

Also, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says eight soldiers were killed in the northern city of Aleppo by a rebel suicide bombing at the city's main prison.
