Officials in Ukraine say seven miners were killed and nine injured in a gas explosion at a state-owned coal mine Monday.
Emergency officials said Tuesday the blast took place in Makeyevka in eastern Ukraine's mineral-rich Donetsk region.
Such explosions are not uncommon in Ukrainian mines, where there is a widespread failure to observe safety regulations.
