Officials: 33 People Killed in Explosion at Coal Mine in China

Chinese officials say 33 people have been killed in a gas explosion at a coal mine in the northern province of Shanxi.

Work safety officials say 71 workers were in the mine at the time of Thursday's blast near the city of Yangquan.

Authorities say 28 miners were killed in the explosion and five others died during rescue attempts.

China's mines are the world's deadliest, with thousands of deaths every year from explosions, fires, flooding and other causes.
