Soccer: Japan Thrashes Taiwan in Woman's Friendly Match

Japanese forwards Shinobu Ono and Ayako Kitamoto each scored three goals to lead the host-nation to an 11-0 thrashing of Taiwan in a women's football friendly match in Tokyo.

Ono scored in the ninth, 23rd and 42nd minutes Saturday, while Kitamoto added goals in the 56th and 68th minutes before completing the scoring on a penalty kick in injury time.

Eriko Arakawa, who scored the lone goal to beat Sweden in the Athens Olympics, and Aya Miyama also scored two goals each, while Asian Player of the Year Homare Sawa added another.

It was the first match for the Japanese women since they reached the quarterfinals at the Summer Games. It also marks the first match for coach Koji Ohashi, who took over after Athens. Japan now has a record of 11 wins, six losses, and one draw against Taiwan.
