Philippine Troops Take Rebel Stronghold

Philippine military officials say they have captured a Muslim rebel camp on the southern island of Jolo after several days of fighting.

The camp was used by Muslim separatists said to have ties to the Abu Sayyaf terrorist group. However, the rebels fled before the troops overran the outpost.

The Abu Sayyaf has claimed responsibility for three bomb attacks Tuesday that killed at least 12 people, saying they were retaliation for the military's campaign the rebels.

Philippine forces have been pursuing the separatists since they launched attacks on soldiers and government projects on February 7.

At least 25 soldiers have been killed in the fighting, with dozens of others injured. It is not clear how many rebels have been killed.
