Spanish Ryder Cup golfer Miguel Angel Jimenez has a two-stroke lead over world number three Ernie Els of South Africa after the second round of the Dubai Desert Classic tournament in the United Arab Emirates.

Jimenez fired a 7-under-par, 65 Friday and is 12-under-par, 132 at the halfway point. First round leader Ernie Els shot a 4-under-par, 68 in his second round and is two strokes back. Jimenez is attempting to win his sixth tournament in 14 months while Els is hoping to win the Dubai tournament for the third time.

Stephen Dodd of Wales is third after shooting a 7-under-par, 65 on the Emirates Golf Club course. Three others - Colin Montgomerie of Scotland, James Kingston of South Africa and Thomas Bjorn of Denmark - are tied for fourth, five strokes off the leader.

Defending champion Mark O'Meara of the United States and former British Open winner Paul Lawrie of Scotland missed the cut.
