Indian Writer, Cartoonist Vijayan Dies at 75


Indian writer and political cartoonist, O.V. Vijayan, has died at the age of 75.

Mr. Vijayan was undergoing treatment at a Hyderabad hospital for Parkinson's disease and other illnesses when he died Wednesday.

Born in Kerala, he became one of the nation's leading authors in the Malayalam language, writing five novels and other texts that discussed the effects of environmental degradation.

Mr. Vijayan also wrote in English for The Hindu and The Statesman newspapers, and he was well-known for his political cartoons.
