Rocket Attack, Bomb Blasts Rock Southwestern Pakistan

update

Pakistani officials say suspected dissident tribesmen in the restive southwestern province of Baluchistan have blown up three electricity pylons and caused five explosions in two major cities.

The officials say the explosions occurred late Tuesday and caused minor damage. They say two bombs went off in the provincial capital, Quetta, while three others exploded in the city of Kalat. One of the bombs in Kalat wounded a 14-year-old boy.

Meanwhile, suspected tribal militants fired six rockets at three power towers near Kalat, leaving at least 5,000 people in the area without electricity.

Baluchistan has been the scene of clashes between security forces and heavily armed tribesmen, who are demanding more royalties for the natural resources extracted from their region.
