Tennis: Davydenko Wins in St. Poelten Tournament

update

Top-seeded Nikolay Davydenko of Russia has scored a three-set victory over Austrian Jurgen Melzer in the final of the BTM Power Grand Prix tennis tournament in Saint Poelten, Austria.

Davydenko beat the fourth-seeded Melzer 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 Saturday at the final men's clay-court warm-up event before the French Open gets under way Monday.

The 24-year-old Davydenko has done well on the clay courts this season, reaching the semifinals in both Barcelona, Spain and Hamburg, Germany. Despite the loss, it was Melzer's best result so far this season. He previously made it to the semifinals in two events.

Davydenko is seeded 12th for the French Open in Paris and is scheduled to play a qualifier in the first round. Melzer is unseeded and plays Australian Wayen Arthurs.
