Argentine tennis player Mariano Puerta has reached the French Open semifinals with a five-set win over ninth-seeded countryman Guillermo Canas in Paris.
Puerta, unseeded at this event, won the first set, but then lost the next two before taking the match in five sets, 6-2, 3-6, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.
The 37th-ranked Puerta was victorious despite making 70 unforced errors in the match, which lasted more than 3 1/2 hours.
The Argentine player meets the winner of today's (Wednesday's) other quarterfinal between Nikolay Davydenko of Russia and Spain's Tommy Robredo.
The other semifinal features world number one men's player Roger Federer of Switzerland facing rising Spanish star Rafael Nadal.
