Argentina Beats Brazil, Earns WC 2006 berth

Argentina has earned a trip to the World Cup football (soccer) finals in Germany next year with a big 3-1 victory over South American rival Brazil.

Hernan Crespo scored twice for Argentina Wednesday, leaving Brazil winless in Buenos Aires for more than a decade.

Brazil, a five-time World Cup champion, can reach the finals by collecting three points over its final three matches.

Third-placed Ecuador suffered a 3-0 defeat to host Colombia in Barranquilla.

Fourth-placed Paraguay picked up a 4-1 victory over last-place Bolivia in Asuncion. Fifth-place Chile was a 2-1 winner over eighth-place Venezuela in Santiago.

The top four finishers automatically qualify for the World Cup. The fifth-place team will face the winner from the Oceana region for another berth.
