Emerson Survives Weird Round to Lead Dutch Golf


English golfer Gary Emerson has the lead headed into the final round of the K-L-M Dutch Open golf tournament, after shooting a 1-under-par 69 in the third round.

Emerson is now 9-under-par 201 for three rounds. He leads countryman Paul Broadhurst and Spain's Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano by one stroke. Broadhurst had a 69 in the third round while Fernandez-Castano shot a 4-under-par 66.

Austrian Markus Brier is in fourth place at 6-under-par 204 after shooting a one-under-par 69 on the 6,091-meter, par-70 Hilversumsche Golf Club course.

Three golfers -- Italian Alessandro Tadini, Maarten Lafeber of the Netherlands and Peter Senior of Australia -- are tied for fifth place at 5-under-par 205. The tournament is the final European P-G-A Tour event before next week's U.S. Open in Pinehurst.
