Tennis: Federer, Davenport Named Top Seeds for Wimbledon

Two-time defending champion Roger Federer of Switzerland and 1999 champion Lindsay Davenport of the United States have been named the top seeds at this year's Wimbledon Tennis Championships.

In seedings announced Wednesday, American Andy Roddick is number-two in the men's draw, which means that he and Federer could meet in the final for the second year in a row. 2002 champion Lleyton Hewitt of Australia is the third seed. French Open champion Rafael Nadal of Spain is fourth, and Australian Open champion Marat Safin of Russia is fifth.

The highest-seeded Briton is once again Tim Henman, at number six. The 30-year-old has made it to the semifinals four times, but has yet to win the title on home soil.

On the women's side, the world number-one Davenport is the top seed, followed by defending champion Maria Sharapova of Russia. France's Amelie Mauresmo is third and two-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams of the United States is fourth. Svetlana Kutznetzova of Russia rounds out the top five.

The draw for the tournament will be held Thursday.
