update

Venus Williams
Two-time champion Venus Williams has defeated fellow-American Jill Craybas 6-0, 6-2, as the second week of play gets underway at the Wimbledon Tennis championships near London.

The win Monday avenged Craybas' upset victory over Williams' younger sister Serena in their third round match Saturday, and sends Venus into the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, second-seeded defending champion Maria Sharapova of Russia never faced a break point as she defeated number-16 Nathalie Dechy of France, 6-4, 6-2.

In other women's action, third-seeded Amelie Mauresmo of France advanced with a 6-4, 6-0 win over number 13 Elena Likhovtseva of Russia, while 12th seeded Frenchwoman Mary Pierce is back in the round-of-eight for the first time in nine years after overpowering Flavia Pannetta of Italy, 6-3, 6-1.

Two other Russians needed three sets to advance. Number eight Nadia Petrova outlasted the Czech Republic's Kveta Peschke 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, while 9th seeded Anastasia Myskina upset number six compatriot Elena Dementieva, 1-6, 7-6, 7-5.

In the men's draw, second-seeded Andy Roddick of the United States knocked off number 15 Guillermo Coria of Argentina, 6-3, 7-6, 6-4. Number-three Lleyton Hewitt of Australia scored a four-set win over American Taylor Dent (6-4, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3), while 12th-seeded Thomas Johansson of Sweden beat Max Mirnyi of Belarus, 6-4, 7-5, 6-4.

Number 18 David Nalbandian of Argentina topped French teen Richard Gasquet 6-4, 7-6, 6-0, but 10th seeded Mario Ancic of Croatia was upset by 27th seeded Spaniard Feliciano Lopez, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2. Number 21 Fernando Gonzalez of Chile defeated Russia's Mikhail Youzhny 7-6, 7-6, 6-3.
