Argentina has defeated Nigeria, 2-1, to win the World Youth Football (soccer) championships in the Netherlands.
Argentina won its fifth title at the Under-20 tournament thanks to two penalty kicks from star player Lionel Messi. The FC Barcelona midfielder was the tournament's top scorer with six goals. Nigeria's only goal came in the 53rd minute from Chinedu Ogbuke.
In addition to this year's championship, Argentina also took the title in 1979, 1995, 1997, and 2001.
In the third place match, Brazil defeated Morocco, 2-1. Morocco took the lead in the first half on an own goal by Brazil's Edcarlos. Moroccan midfielder Adil Hermach's shot bounced off Edcarlos's foot in the 47th minute.
However, the Brazilians came back in the second half when Morocco's Yassine Zouchou was sent off for his second yellow card in the 86th minute. Brazil's Fabio Santos scored in the 88th minute and Edcarlos redeemed himself with an injury-time goal (91st minute).
