Israel Launches Air Strikes in Gaza Strip

Israel launched fresh missile strikes in the Gaza Strip Saturday, a day after attacks that killed six Hamas militants, and it vowed to keep targeting gunmen who fire rockets into Israeli territory.

The air raids, which wounded two people, destroyed three workshops in Gaza City and Khan Younis. Israel says militants used the workshops to produce munitions.

Israeli helicopter strikes in the West Bank and Gaza on Friday killed six members of the militant group Hamas, and Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has warned that more strikes would be aimed at militants who fire rockets into Israel. The Israeli defense minister, Shaul Mofaz, says no ground operations are planned for now, to give Palestinian leaders a chance to rein in militants.

Palestinian security forces and Hamas members fought a gunbattle in Gaza City on Friday that killed two bystanders and wounded 25 other people.
