No Word on Fate of Algerian Diplomat Kidnapped in Iraq

U.S. troops secure area after carbomb attack targeting a U.S. military convoy in area east of Baghdad, Friday
The Algerian embassy in Baghdad says it has not received any news on the fate of one of its top diplomats and his aide, who were kidnapped Thursday in western Baghdad.

No group has claimed responsibility for the abduction of the 62-year-old charge d'affaires, Alie Belaroussi outside a Baghdad restaurant. The diplomat did not have a security detail.

In other developments, gunmen killed two policemen as they directed traffic in eastern Baghdad. Assailants also fired on a car carrying a newly married couple, killing the bride and wounding her husband.

The U.S. military said Friday that a roadside bomb blast west of Baghdad killed a U.S. Marine on Thursday.
